Understanding Dewalya

What is Dewalya?

Dewalya is a marriage platform for Muslims in Africa and the diaspora who want to get married. People come here with a clear intention: to build a family, in keeping with Islamic and family values.

How is it different from a dating app?

There is no endless scrolling and no game. Each day, Dewalya shows you a few profiles chosen with care. A conversation only opens when the interest is mutual, and every profile is reviewed by our team before it becomes visible.

Why no swiping
Who is Dewalya for?

Muslim women and men, aged 18 or over, who want to get married, wherever they live: in Africa, Europe, North America or elsewhere. Single, divorced or widowed, everyone is welcome, whatever their origin.

Which countries and languages?

Dewalya is available worldwide, in French and English. On your profile you list the languages you speak, such as Fula, Wolof, Arabic or English, and the ones you grew up with. They count in the profiles suggested to you.

Who is behind Dewalya?

Dewalya is an independent service. The publisher, hosting and ways to reach us are listed in our legal notice.

Signing up and your profile

How do I sign up?

Create your account with your e-mail address or your Google account, then confirm your address. Guided steps then help you introduce yourself: who you are, your values, your vision of marriage, what you are looking for, and at least one photo.

You can stop and come back later: your answers are kept.

Is my profile visible straight away?

No. Our team reviews every profile and every photo before they become visible. You receive an e-mail as soon as your profile is approved. In the meantime you can already browse members’ profiles and complete yours.

What “verified” means
Why is a photo required?

A photo approved by the team is needed to send requests. That is what keeps fake profiles out and lets everyone move forward with confidence.

How old do I need to be?

You must be an adult: 18 at the very least. The required age is shown when you sign up, and any profile of a minor is removed.

Protection of minors
Can I have my identity verified?

Yes, it is optional. From your profile you can send an identity document to a secure space. Once the team has checked it, the document is deleted and your profile shows the “Identity verified” badge.

Photos and modesty

Who can see my photos?

Only signed-in members see photos, and only after the team has approved them. You can blur your photos at any time: they then stay blurred for every member until you decide to make them visible. The app tells you what this choice changes for you, for example when taking the first step.

Can my photos be copied?

No website can fully prevent a screenshot. That is why blurring exists, and why any misuse of a photo can be reported: the team takes action, up to deleting the account.

Meeting and messaging

How does meeting someone work?

You browse the profiles suggested to you and open the ones that interest you. To take the first step, you send an interest, optionally with a “flash”, a respectful sentence already written for you. If the person replies with an interest, the conversation opens.

How are the profiles suggested to me chosen?

Dewalya takes into account what you are looking for and what matters for a marriage: age, where you live, languages, religious practice, your vision of marriage, wanting children. Your filters set what is essential for you.

The wali and family

Can I involve my family?

Yes. From “My wali”, you invite a trusted relative (your father, mother, brother, sister, aunt…) by WhatsApp or e-mail. They do not need an account: a link is enough.

Your wali sees the encounters you choose to share: the person’s first name, age, city and profession, and how your conversation is progressing. They never see your messages or photos, and you can remove their access at any time.

Guardians welcome
Will the person I talk to know?

Yes. When a wali follows your journey, your profile shows it and the person you are talking to is informed in the conversation. Nothing happens behind their back.

Is a wali required?

No, it is your choice. You can invite a relative when you sign up, later, or never.

Safety and data

How does Dewalya protect against fake profiles and scams?

Every e-mail address is verified, every profile and photo is reviewed by the team, and identity verification is offered. A button lets you report or block someone from their profile or the conversation, and every report is reviewed by a person.

Advice that holds everywhere: never send money to someone you met online.

Our moderation
What happens to my data?

Your data is used only to run the service. It is hosted in the European Union, never sold, and Dewalya shows no advertising. You can download it at any time from your settings.

Privacy policy
How do I delete my account?

From Settings, under Data and account. Your profile disappears immediately. You then have 30 days to change your mind, after which the deletion is final.

Free and Premium

Is Dewalya free?

Yes, the essentials are free: creating your profile, being reviewed by the team, browsing profiles, sending interests, talking after a mutual interest, blurring your photos and inviting your wali.

What does Premium offer, and at what price?

Premium adds extras, such as seeing who viewed your profile or going back to a profile you passed on. Prices depend on your country and are shown in your currency on the Premium page: monthly or annual subscription, or a fixed-length pass that never renews.

How do I pay, and how do I cancel?

Payment is made by card, on a secure page. Other payment methods appear on the Premium page when they are available in your country.

A subscription can be cancelled in a few taps from your settings and stays active until the end of the paid period. A pass never renews.
